HTC have made a deal with VIA and bought S3 Graphics division for a price around $300 million, according to theInquirer. The transaction has already been approved by the boards of directors at all three companies.
From this purchase $147 million will line VIA Technologies’ coffers while $153 million will go to WTI for its share of S3 Graphics. In exchange, VIA will retain a permanent license to current S3 Graphics, allowing it to continue marketing its chipsets without having to shell out to HTC for licensing.
WTI Investment International is owned by Cher Wang, who also is the chairman of the board at both VIA and HTC. It looks like a done deal inside the family.
