Tablet sector which was being dominated by the Apple’s    ‘I-pad 2’, now has got some new competitor. HTC one of the world’s largest Smartphone manufacturer is entering in Tablet warzone by launching the HTC Flyer tablet. HTC which is popular for its HTC  Sense has given the tablet the latest HTC Sense. HTC is promoting the tablet as “A Tablet like no other”. Let us see if this able to withstand the tablet war or Flyer throws blows away its competitor by its sandstorm.

Talking about the first looks and designs the  7-inch touchscreen is so sleek. The 7-inch display is small as compared to it competitors like  MOTOROLA  XOOM. But according to us the small display makes it handy and light, while XOOM has great weight and handling problem due to its size. The small display makes it handy and light, while XOOM has great weight and handling problem due to its size. The screen resolution is 600 x 1024 pixels which is pretty great. The dimensions of FLYER are 195.4mm x 122mm x 13.2mm. The weight is just 420gms with battery which is about 300gms less than XOOM.

It has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack and standard usb 2.0 slot. It also got a pen for smoother touch screen performance.  The idea of a pen is wonderful for browsing and drawing, but it also got many useful applications in tablet form.

Talking about the hardware, FLYER has got the enormous Qualcomm Snapdragon 1.5 GHz  which is single core. It might sound funny but the tablet got a  has a single core in DUAL CORE processor world. Now phones are coming with dual core this tablet is just a single core.  The ram is 1024 Mb which is ok for multitasking. The device recognizes multiple touches up to 5 touches. It has 32 GB internal flash memory and an external sd card slot for further expansion of memory. It has got Bluetooth 3.1 which is latest. 3g and WIFI vary according to versions.  It also doesn’t have a HDMI slot. It also has standard set of the sensors like Ambient light sensor,G-Sensor,Digital compass etc. It has a 4000 MAh li-ion battery which is pretty wonderful. The battery give a great standby time of  1470 hrs, which is great as tablet becomes part of day to day life.

Flyer has got 5 megapixel rear camera with auto focus and led flash. The camera clarity is pretty awesome but the flash is not as strong that it has to be. Various camera modes are there which is pretty interesting. To our surprise it only record 720p video, at this price point this low resolution camera is awful. It also has a 1.3 megapixel front camera for video calling which is pretty ok.

Talking about the multimedia, the Flyer has a great sound clarity and the video playback is also awesome. Being an Android ,HTC FLYER has support for the following video (H.263, H.264, MPEG4, VP8), and audio (AAC, AAC+, AMR NB, AMRWB, MP3, XMF) formats. It also supports 1080p video playback. Thumbs up for the sound and video clarity. The android music and video player is awesome. Having a 1.5 Ghz processor the web experience is awesome, it also supports Adobe flash  10.1 ,this means the flash video runs  smoothly without a lag. The galley is also awesome. Enjoying pinch zoom on this high resolution screen is amazing.

Talking about the O.S. HYC FLYER has Android version 2.3.4 Gingerbread. Gingerbread is designed for the phones and not for the tablet. This is the place where Flyer lags from the XOOM which has got ANDROID 3.0 HONEYCOMB which is designed especially for tablet. Having a phone O.S  , still the phone doesn’t support calls and messages, now what’s the use of giving it phone’s O.S.  It only supports video calls via Skype and other apps. Talking about the famous HTC Sense, HTC Sense 3.0 is pretty amazing. The HTC sense clock is amazing and refreshes one mind. The gaming on this phone is also game. Almost all HD games runs on it, but some games runs pixilated that’s due to mismatching of O.S and the screen size. The quadrant standard results were not so amazing. It lags behind the XOOM.

Final words, HTC Flyer has got some awkward points like no DUAL CORE PROCESSOR, ANDROID 2.3 which is a phone O.S, not supporting calls etc. But everything can be neglected for a HTC sense. Though many developers won’t develop games for unmatched hardware and O.S Tablet. It won’t run the standard Android Tablet apps.  The concept of a pen in a tablet is awesome and would find much use in future. Though it is rich in multimedia features we suggest waiting for HTC FLYER 2, which would remove all its drawbacks including the O.S.
