PocketDroid Review – Motorola XOOM

The new comer to enter in the tablet war and aiming to end rivalry with Apple and earn the title a the ultimate Ipad killer is the Motorola XOOM .XOOM is the officially the first device to run on Google’s much awaited and first of the android tablet based os HONEYCOMB aka Android 3.0 . Today our Pocketdroid team got a chance to review the most awaited Motorola Xoom.

Talking about the first looks and designs the  10.1’’ display looks so sexy. The dimensions are   250 mm X170 mmX13 mm. The device thickness is just more than a cm, being a new product od its kind some mistakes were seen. The weight is about 730gms without the covers. The device is not at all handy, if your hands often sweat there are chances than this tablet may slip from your hand. But then also there is  a great scope for evolution.

THE  os is not completely new if you have used an android phone. First of all I want to thank Google for its work on HONEYCOMB. Surely this os is definitely a os for tablets. Various features are included in the os which are definitely required to run a tablet. Motorola has also added its touch to the os.

Honeycomb feature the  advanced gallery3d app.The gallery is much inspired by cooliris.com A great video editing software  Movie Studio is pre installed. The video and images playback options was amazing. Pinch zoom works great on XOOM.  The one thing that we Hated is that it supports only 720p video playback, shame  Motorola that even phones like Samsung galaxy S2 give Full 1080p video playback.

Talking about the hardware Xoom has a 1ghz dualcore Nvidia Tegra 2 processor. For the multitasking the Xoom has 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM , a pretty  gpu for Light gaming. The screen resolution is 1280 x 800. The device recognizes multiple touches up to 5 touches. It has 32gb internal flash memory and an external sd card slot for further expansion of memory. It features a variety of sensors, including a gyroscope, magnetometer, accelerometer, and a barometer. The wifi and 3g changes according to version. It has a Bluetooth 2.1 we were expecting Bluetooth 3.0. and a HDMI port for media playing.

Xoom has a 5mp rear camera with autofocus and dual led flash. The flash is strong enough to capture imaged during sunset or night. It also has a1.3mp front camera for video conferencing. The camera clarity is pretty ok. The  camera has various shooting modes and gives much option for capturing images.  The device only supports 720p video recording.

Talking about the multimedia, the Xoom has a great sound clarity and the video playback is also awesome. Being an Android ,Motorola Xoom has support for the following video (H.263, H.264, MPEG4, VP8), and audio (AAC, AAC+, AMR NB, AMRWB, MP3, XMF) formats. Thumbs up for the sound and video clarity. The android music and video player is awesome. Having a 1ghz processor the web experience is awesome, it also supports Adobe flash  10.1 ,this means the flash video runs like a  HOT KNIFE ON A BUTTER.

Talking about the app and gaming experience, as this run on a new operating system the apps and games are limited, but the amount of devs working hard to increase the apps for the tablet os. Surprisingly the apps are increasing much more faster than the apples ipad apps. The games runs awesome EA has also shown support for the Honeycomb they are frequently releasing  games for it till then keep fingers crossed.

On running the Quadrant standard we were amazd by the result, the device ouruled all the available smartphones in the market. This shows Hardware has got a great capabilities MOTOROLA you need a great developer to enhance the beauty.

FINAL QUOTES,The device is new but its for the few who thinks that pc gonna be a stone age thing, Whatever capabilities the tablet contains it would always be  secondary computer, the device is great but its nota a IPAD 2 killer for now MR Steve Jobs u could relax.
