Copyright Requirements Block Rooted Devices On Android Movie Rentals

In what promised to be a great service the android movie rentals from Google, might become a big frustration for users with rooted devices, as they are no longer able to stream movies from android market.

This is what a user gets when trying to access android rentals with a rooted phone: “Failed to fetch license for [movie title] (error 49)” when I try to download a movie.

Google’s response to this issue was as follows: “You’ll receive this “Error 49” message if you attempt to play a movie on a rooted device. Rooted devices are currently unsupported due to requirements related to copyright protection.

To be honest i dont think anyone would want to pirate rentals from google, there are plenty other ways to that (piracy is bad, mmmkay?? :D ), i belive there is another reason behind all this and we will probably find it in the next couple of weeks.

I will follow this subject and will get back with news as soon as i get an answer on this, meanwhile i want to see some comments wheather Google should or not, allow rooted device.
