PocketReview: Acer Liquid Metal

Acer has recently been trying to take a chunk of market share by releasing its Liquid Metal series of Android Smartphones.

The latest phone to come through this series is the ¬†“Acer Liquid Metal” ¬†abbreviated as (liquid) in the text now onwards. The build quality of the Liquid is very good and the combo of plastic and stainless steel results in a classic look.

The Android OS version 2.2 (froyo) is combined with Acer’s own “Breeze” UI.The phone is powered by an 800 mhz Scorpion processor, which isn’t exactly made for multi-tasking as it runs out of power when several apps are opened.Another con for this phone is that using on-screen keyboard in portrait-mode is a bit of a pain.

Acer has scored good points on Call Clarity,Audio Quality and loudness.Even at higher volume levels the sound Clarity is quite good and the earpiece does a fantastic job as well.Dolby Mobile sound adds to the audio quality but using an earpiece is recommended instead of the loudspeaker.
The Liquid has a 5MP camera which does a good job in recording videos even at 720P HD resolutions without any blur or jerky frames.Liquid gives a reasonable 1-2 days battery (Li-Ion 1500 mAh) back-up under normal usage.

The Liquid will attract people desiring fashion and the fans of the BREEZE UI.But it has a tough fight to fight with other better options in the same price range like the Samsung Galaxy S (S-LCD version) and the HTC Desire, which inspite of being older may prove to be a better option.
