We’ve seen a lot today at the IFA Consumer Electronics Show which is being held in Berlin. Sony announced a smartphone trio as well as an Xperia tablet.

Sony’s CEO Kaz Hirai at the IFA launch event announced that their new product motto would be “Inspire and fulfill” as he unveiled it’s newest addition, the Xperia T which was previously known as the Xperia Mint. The high-end handset supersedes the long dated Sony Xperia S, however the design remains the same except for the wider 4.65 inch HD “Reality” Display. The rear camera also got a minor bump from classic 12MP which was used on the Xperia S & Acro S to a stealthy brand new 13MP Exmor RS sensor.

The PlayStation certified Xperia T features NFC capabilities as well as a MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor running at 1.5GHz coupled with 1GB of RAM & the Adreno 225 GPU. You’ll also have the ability to insert a MicroSD card hence expanding the built-in 16GB storage. The Xperia T will come preloaded with Android 4.0, and will get the Jelly Bean update shortly afterwards. The Xperia T should be available within a few weeks, as Q3 is the official release schedule but Singapore and Malaysia will get the TX variant while Indonesia will get Xperia T in January 2013.

Sony has yet to switch to a quad-core platform but a company executive hinted that “early 2013″ is when we’ll see quad-core handsets from Sony.

Next comes the Xperia V which features a 4.3-inch HD Reality Display with a resolution of 720 by 1280 pixels & a 13-megapixel camera. Powered by a Snapdragon 1.5GHz dual-core processor & 1GB of RAM, as the Jelly Bean upgradeable Xperia T this handset also comes preloaded with Android 4.0 along with NFC and the PlayStation certification. The Xperia V will have LTE on board and will be Sony’s first LTE phone for the Singapore market. Like it’s little cousin, the Acro S; the Xperia V is also dust and water-resistant and has an IP57 rating, which guarantees resistance to water up to 1m deep for 30 minutes.

Xperia J Sony Xperia IFA 2012 coverage

Finally a decent midrange device, the Sony Xperia J. While Sony primarily introduced high-end smartphones here comes a new affordable handset. The latter packs 4.0 inch screen with a pixel count of 480×854 along with a lowly MSM7227a Cortex-A5 Snapdragon S processor clocking at 1GHz & an Adreno 200 GPU accompanied with a mere 512MB of RAM. Has a 5MP Camera which records in standard VGA resolution & sports 4GB of internal memory expandable to 32GB thanks to a MicroSD slot. Comes with Android 4.0 out of the box with a promised Jelly Bean update.

Tablet S Sony Xperia IFA 2012 coverage

Sony ultimately introduced the Xperia Tablet S, the company’s first Xperia tablet. The elegant tablet is here to seduce the eyes with it’s thin and sleek unified design. Hardwares-wise it’s a real beast, packing the Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset clocked at 1.3GHz with two to four cores active and up to 1.4GHz in single-core operations and has 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 3.0, a gyroscope, and an accelerometer, 1GB of RAM & a bright 9.4-inch IPS LCD display with a decent resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It features a 8MP rear camera along with a 1MP front camera The tablet rocks Android 4.0 but Sony will bump it to Jelly Bean. It also features a full-sized SD port, USB and HDMI & an IR sensor from the original Tablet S and doubles as well as a remote control.

The 16GB version of the Xperia Tablet S will sell for $399, $499 for the 32GB version and $599 for the 64GB variant. It is scheduled to be released on September 7th but can already be pre-ordered.
