Motorola officially announces plans to upgrade Droid RAZR, XOOM and Droid Bionic to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

motorola android Motorola officially announces plans to upgrade Droid RAZR, XOOM and Droid Bionic to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Motorola Mobility announced earlier today that the company plans to upgrade Droid RAZR, Motorola RAZR, Motorola XOOM and Droid Bionic to the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 6 weeks time, after Google releases the final (stable) version source code of the OS.

“A note about Ice Cream Sandwich:

We are planning to upgrade DROID RAZR, Motorola RAZR, Motorola XOOM and DROID BIONIC by Motorola to Ice Cream Sandwich. We will provide more precise guidance on timing after post-public push of Ice Cream Sandwich by Google, as well as any possible additions to this list of devices.”

This note was posted on  Motorola Android Software Upgrade News page today, so we should expect the new firmware upgrades to roll somewhere near Christmas if not in the beginning of 2012, in January. According to Motorola the list might extend to even more devices by the time Google releases a finalized version of ICS OS.

In other news Motorola also plans to offer an unlockable/relockable bootloader, currently found on Motorola XOOM tablet, in future software releases starting in late 2011 where operator and channel partners will allow it. The company understands carriers and the need for security, but also needs to offer a balance between such concerns and the need to support developer communities in using these products as a development platform.

I would really like to hear some comments (thoughts) on this big announcement made by Motorola, specially from owners of such devices.
