unnamed Daily Android App: Skydrive for Android

Microsoft Skydrive application for Android devices is now available on Google Play store. The app brings power of cloud platform and file syncing capabilities to Android devices. With Skydrive app users can upload or store files in Microsoft’s cloud server. You can easily access or upload pretty much any file format like photos or videos anywhere, anytime with this app.

As compared to popular cloud storage services like Dropbox and Google Drive which offers 2GB, respectively 5GB free storage, the Microsoft users will get 7GB free space as a starter in Skydrive. The Skydrive really excels at syncing documents created using OneNote and other Microsoft Office products like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, but there is no option to edit it online so, you have to download a third-party app for editing your file.

Now, talking about interface, it is based on Windows 8 Metro UI. The home screen is pretty nice blue colored, shows all of your files and folders and the basic controls are assembled at top such as switching your view between tile view and list view, uploading videos and pictures, adding a new folder to cloud etc. The interface makes easy really easy for user to upload or download files to and from the cloud.

The overall app is nice, but main thing I didn’t like while reviewing the app was that the app lacks the feature of editing Office files, to do so you have to download a third party app and then download your file to local storage, edit it and then send it back to the cloud, this is a lengthy process and kills time. Microsoft needs to think it over and add support for editing files.
