The official game inspired by the 3D animated movie picture Epic, which is now in theaters across the US, has landed on Google Play Store. Daddy Was A Thief is a nice casual game in which the main goal is to collect as many coins as possible by crushing through an endless amount of floors of an infinite skyscraper. It’s whole new twist of the endless running type of games and will surely get the fans of it attracted.

The main character and leader of the action is the daddy, who desperately needs to find as many coins as possible without getting caught, killed or smashed during doing it. It may sound boring, but believe us: it’s the complete opposite! Every time you play the game throws a different situation, different floor arrangements you have to pass through, different furniture and different enemies. Also, there’s also the fact that it’s very easy to just pick it up and play: there are no real missions or achievements to complete, you just play for the fun of it!

Daddy Was A Thief is a really easy game to play, actually. The only controls you need to know are the swipe up and down actions and that’s about it. Everything else is up to you, your skill and your reflexes. The first floors are generally easy and full of coins that fly just in front of your nose, ready to be grabbed. As you progress further down the building, things get a little bit trickier. There’s more and more furniture on a single floor and as the number of enemies goes up, they also become stronger and smarter. Do not worry, though, one jump over them will likely mark their end.

Maybe there are no achievements, nor missions to be completed, but there is an existing leveling system that’s here to make yourself feel more engaged with the game. As you progress and reach higher levels, you will unlock more and more upgrades and powerups that can be bought from the store with the collected coins. Not everything in this game is pointless after all.

The store is the place where you upgrade your player’s powers, unlock new players and buy powerful powerups. There’s a big variety of each of them.

Finally, lets comment the graphics and audio effects of the game. They are very good, actually. With pleasant and vivid colors, they certainly suit the type of the game and the smart audio effects clearly make the game a whole. All in all, Daddy Was A Thief is a great time-passer that will cost you nothing to get it on the Google Play Store.

At the end of this week Mozilla launched the next version of its mobile browser – Firefox for Android 22 which right now is in beta stages. The good thing about this new version is that it brings the full tablet UI experience available for 10.1 inch screens for a while, to the small screen and more importantly it is compatibile with the Nexus 7 and Samsung’s latest Galaxy Note 8.0 with an S Pen.

So now, 7 inch tablet owners can browse the web freely and see what tabs has running (open) on the left side for faster browsing/switching between tabs. Firefox 22 Beta also comes iwth improved WebGL rendering performance, CSS3 Flexbox enabled by default, and more.

Krowds is an all-new service that lets you share and find videos based only on your interest and current location. It’s a very easy way to find out what’s happening in the neighborhood right from your cellphone or to just enjoy the fun of it.

Developed by Pixorial, Krowds represents a very nice concept, though in our opinion its future is still uncertain. It just haven’t got the attention it needs in order to make a big splash in the respective category. But hey, this is only the beginning of the journey and who knows what the future might bring next.

Now, lets take a look at the app itself and explain the basics of the service as a whole and the structure of the application’s user interface. Basically, in order to start using Krowds, it is needed to set up an account. That can be done by registering as a new Pixorial user, or using an existing Google or Facebook account. We find that way much easier, primarily because of the ease of sharing the content on the biggest social networks in the internet world. After everything’s up and running, here comes the main screen which gladly presents you the Krowds in your nearby surroundings. Then there’s also the my Krowds tab that lets you explore your own Krowds. It is a very sleek user interface that makes good use of Google’s Holo UI components and matches the stock Android styling and colors.

To add a Krowd you just need to press a few buttons. Hitting the menu one will grant access to some additional options, like settings upload and your desired one: add Krowd. So, give it a name, a brief description, tap create and you are good to go.

Once the Krowd is created, it can be further edited. Changes vary from changing the title and description, removing videos and more importantly, adding new videos to the Krowd. Also, always keep in mind that Krowds can be shared on many social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter, or just through email, you name it.

To share Krowds on social networks such as Facebook and Twitter, you must firstly connect a respective account. It’s a very easy and painless process, actually: you are only needed to enter your email and password and grant Pixorial some permissions. That’s about it.

We generally like Krowds as a service and also, the Android application. However, the user interface could use some refinements. For example, there are a couple of menus that can be removed due to their uselessness. Krowds for Android does also need some improvement in the UI navigation. Other than that, it is optimized enough to run flawlessly on all supported devices.

The French mobile game developer — Gameloft announces the upcoming new Gangstar Vegas episode for Android and iOS mobile devices. As its name implies it, the action of the next Gangstar franchise installment takes place in Las Vegas, but this doesn’t mean that what happens in Vegas (guns, girls, & gambling), stays in Vegas, because it’s coming to Play store and App store soon.

While the teaser trailer doesnt reveal much details about the game, it looks like the fans will be in for an amazing graphics trip. Likely for Gameloft to launch a short gameplay trailer in the following days, so stay tuned to Pocketdroid for more on Gangstar Vegas.

Watch out guys, something BIG is happening in the Android world! It’s no other thing, but the arrival of a next-gen home screen replacement app (launcher) that aims on making your Android experience even friendlier and easier to use than before. Enter the new world of BIG Launcher, where everything is easier, faster and BIGGER.

We see BIG Launcher as a very nice concept, primarily because of its usability and friendliness. It offers a user interface where everything relies on pressing some huge buttons that occupy most of the screen’s real estate. An average user may and will not get the point of this, but elderly people and ones with bad sight might just feel right at home with this one.

At first launch, a wizard pops up automatically which leads to configuring the launcher settings to your preference. For example, there’s the option to configure the text size, applied theme, color scheme etc.

After the launcher is set up and ready for use,  the first thing you’ll see is the main screen, which provides access to several key apps, such as the phone, camera, messages etc. Other shortcuts can be also added through the settings menu. As you can see, BIG Launcher does not fail to remind us of Windows Phone’s tiled user interface, but while that one is more sophisticated with live and re-sizable tiles, this one goes just for simplicity. You won’t see any polished icons here, nor some beautiful animations, but you certainly get the point of this launcher.

The other key component of BIG Launcher is the app browser. Once again, it’s a really Windows Phone-like user interface, with all of the apps arranged alphabetically on a list and a search bar at the top of the screen.

One final part of BIG Launcher that may serve as a vital one is the custom dialer. It’s a very simpe one, to say the least and looks pretty much like a very simple calculator with only twelve huge buttons and a text bar that shows the typed numbers.

The settings menu of BIG Launcher is very rich of different options. Visit it to configure the launcher to your personal likes.

Finally, if you are convinced enough in getting it, BIG Launcher can be bought from the Google Play Store for a price of $10.00, though there’s also a free version if you just want to try it out.

VLC is one of the most popular and desired media players on almost all platforms, making its debut on Windows and spreading across many others. Only recently, though, it has landed on Android and it aims on delivering the most remarkable media experience ever while still doing the magic that made the original so successful.

The key component of VLC’s success lies in its power and simplicity, the ability to play almost any file there is while still keeping the memory usage to a minimum. The Android version, though much different from its PC counterpart, is backed up by the same concept: simplicity. It offers a cool, sleek user interface and immediate access to the provided content. The user environment can be described in the following way: there’s the main toolbar with a few buttons, such as the search button. On the left there’s a sidebar which provides access to additional media directories and switches between the audio and video player. Ultimately, on the center of the screen there’s the area that occupies the most of the provided screen estate: the media browser. Media content is presented right in front of your fingertips and only a single tap is needed for the playback to be triggered.

VLC’s primary job, though, is to provide seamless audio and video playback of almost any media format out there and, luckily, it does it brilliantly. Videos run silky smooth with no hiccups whatsoever, the media controls are simple, yet smart, there are also some additional stats shown, such as battery percentage which can be very helpful. There are also some options that can be tweaked in the settings menu, such as whether the video playback is hardware-accelerated or not, whether VLC will recognize a headset when plugged-in etc.

All in all, VLC is a very solid media player, lightweight, yet powerful and easy to use. If that’s the thing that matters to you the most, do not wait a second: get it for free from the Google Play Store!

We’ve all had apps that had updates,but the update wasn’t in the Google Play store, so what do we do? Especially when the update carries a fix to an annoying bug in the app we are so fond of? We go to a third-party website and get the latest update, probably from the developer himself. There are apps which already do this like the native Facebook Android app. Google has frowned upon this and has banned any update of an app outside the parameters of the Google play store.

You see, Facebook was trying to update its app via other means and not by the official means of Google Play store mechanisms and processes. In the not so distant past, Google has always blocked “applications that cause users to unknowingly download or install applications from sources outside of Google Play.” Google has changed its terms and conditions, or rather modified it, in the Dangerous Products sections.

Apps that collect information (such as the user’s location or behavior) without the user’s knowledge (spyware), malicious script and password phishing scams are also prohibited on Google Play,as are applications that cause users to unknowingly download or install application from outside Google play. An app downloaded from Google play may not modify,install or update its own APK binary code using any other method other than Google plays update mechanism.

Google has cracked the whip on this one, reminding developers that even though the Android platform is open-source, it still owns the Google Play store and Android, and can ban apps that do not follow its terms and conditions. And it makes sense, this way Google has more control over any updates and therefore users are more protection against scams and othe security risks.
