It seems, that HTC isn’t the only one making a Nexus device for Google, this year. Huawei is also working on manufacturing a smartphone for the search giant, an exec of the Chinese OEM confirmed it during P9 series debut in South Africa.
On Thursday, June 2, Huawei introduced its latest and greatest smartphones yet, the Huawei P9, P9 Plus and P9 Lite on to the South African market. Nothing out of the ordinary here, one might say.
Well, at the event attended Charlene Munilall, the general manager for Huawei’s Consumer Business Group in South Africa, who, during an interview spilled the beans in front of the reporters, about Huawei building a 2016 Nexus smartphone for Google:
“That said, the distributors, our open market, do bring in the device, that’s how Cellucity got it… and that will still be the same this year. We’re doing the Nexus again this year, by the way,”
Google’s next Nexus devices might come with pressure sensitive touch display’s, according to a handful of rumours from earlier this year. The Nexus smartphone display in particular, might be compatible with Google’s Daydream VR technology, which the company will début commercially, this autumn.
