On Friday, Amazon announced that it is opening Fire OS 5 Developer Preview program so that developers can start working on their apps compatibility with the latest customized version of Fire OS that powers the Fire tablets, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.
Fire OS 5 Developer Preview is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, meaning it will be easier that never before for developers to optimize their apps to work on Amazon’s Fire devices.
If you want to try Fire OS 5 Developer Preview, here’s what you have to do:
As an Amazon Developer, we’re offering you early access to Fire OS 5. You can now see your app running on a Fire HD 6 or Fire HD 7 tablet, and identify any app compatibility issues well in advance of our new Fire OS launch later this year. To participate in the Fire OS 5 Developer Preview, click here.
One can also check for free and really fast if the app he/she is working on, is compatible with Fire OS 5 Developer Preview through the Amazon Testing Service. A free tool that allows one to test any app for compatibility on Fire and Android devices.
To test your app, simply drag and drop your Android APK into the App Testing Service on the Amazon Developer Portal homepage page, wait for about 90 seconds or so and you will get compatibility results for Fire OS 5 and Android Lollipop.
