VLC media player, one of the most popular and widely installed video player is about to get full Chromecast support thanks to the developers who are actively working on its development.
The feature will first land in iOS builds of VLC while Android, Linux and PC versions are scheduled to get Chromecast support after the iOS version ships. One of the key VLC developers, Felix Paul Kühne had confirmed that the iOS builds will be out by mid-July but no ETA was given for the Windows, Linux or Android version.
The development of VLC has been rather slow, especially on Android due to lack of SDK as Android Police points out but things could change rapidly. VLC for Android is also said to drop the beta moniker after nearly two years with the upcoming releases which should hopefully be the first stable bits that the team would deliver on Android.
