Nexus 8 manufactured by HTC
There’s also speculation that Google aren’t planning on updating their 10 inch Nexus tab and this could well be the more svelte replacement. A lot of the speculation was that Asus would be making the 8.9 inch iteration after making both of the 7 inch editions.
But the rumour mill is suggesting that HTC could be the manufacturer of choice, CNET bagged an interview with director of tablet and monitor research at IHS technology Rhoda Alexander, who suggests that the device could be made by HTC and would be “high performance” and also that “Volume production is expected to start in July or August. The expectation is [that] this will be a lower volume product, carrying a premium price tag to support the specifications.” She puts the price higher than $299.
If these rumours have any truth in them, then HTC gets to come back onto the tablet segment this year after “a sour defeat” suffered a few years back (HTC Flyer and HTC Jetstream failure in a time when tablet market was barely blooming).
Considering we’ve heard and seen nothing of a Nexus 10, it’s very plausible that this 8 inch tablet could be its successor, as usual remember to take all this with a pinch of salt, it’s a rumour at the end of the day, and lets not forget that a Nexus 7 for 2014 is still in Google plans.
