ZTE, one of the largest Chinsese smartphone manufacturer has once again managed to grab the tech world’s attention with their upcoming Geek U988S which will be the first smartphone powered by Nvidia’s latest silicon offering – the one and only Tegra 4 SoC!
The niche Nvidia Tegra 4 may not have been widely adopted like its predecessor, nor are demands up to Nvidia’s expectations but that hasn’t stopped ZTE from using it. The latter is expected to unveil a new kind of beast bundled with the Tegra 4 judging from the recent shots posted on the Chinese’s social website Weibo followed by a confirmation from China’s TENAA certification database.
The ZTE Geek U988S is reportedly an upgraded version of its Geek cousin packing beefier internals. It will debut with a 5-inch 1080p display panel, 2GB of RAM, a front 2MP shooter coupled by a rear 8MP while Android 4.2 runs the show.
The SoC will be clocked at 1.8GHz but there is now word whether it would be the fully fledged power hungry Tegra 4 or the trimmed down Tegra 4i (Grey). The handset will initially hit the world’s largest carrier; China Mobile which uses a proprietary TD-SCDMA band.
An international release is likely to follow but we’re have to wait for the official announcement, an LTE variant might also be in the works!
