ASUS, the world’s fifth largest PC maker, aims to have a bigger role in the smartphone market and plans to out a unique new smartphone design that might propel them to a similar standing as LG or Motorola for starters atleast. Having launched the Padfone on April 2oth, they will look to build on the momentum with a 2nd-Generation release of the smartphone in September.
ASUS CEO Jerry Shen said at a press conference Monday that they will continue development on their smartphone lineup after the successful release of the Padfone. He also added that with the release of their 2nd generation device they hope to be on par with the leading Android mobile manufacturers.
The ASUS Padfone has a 4.3-inch smartphone featuring Qualcomm’s dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and a powerful 8-megapixel camera. It is internationally available since April 2oth. It can also be combined with 10.1 inch ASUS tablet and keyboard dock to provide integrated phone and tablet functions. The bundle will cost around $888 with the standalone device coming it at $612.
