Many of us are fans of the android operating system and the vast plethora of apps available for the same but the tragedy is that we don’t own an android powered mobile phone to test android applications out. Well this is not a problem any more . BlueStacks have come up with an app player which lets you enjoy the fun and thrill of an android phone right on your computer screen.

BlueStacks App player is basically a software for Windows operating system (supports Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7) which can be installed on your computer and further Android apps could be installed on it. It’s about 92MB in size which is less considering that you are introducing a new OS to your Windows.

It has its own store from which you can download your favorite applications and install them on the player. It gives you 4 App size modes namely Tablet, large phone , phone, default. For android mobile owners , it provides a feature of syncing all the apps installed on your phone to App Player .

The beta-1 version incorporates the HandyGames patent-pending Layercake technology, enabling Android apps to run seamlessly on x86-based PCs. This includes apps written for the ARM processor like Angry Birds Space and Fruit Ninja, as well as apps that use hardware graphics acceleration. Apps designed for high-end tablets that use graphics-intensive engines such as Unity can also run on the new platform. In the software’s press release the developers mentioned,

“LayerCake is a disruptive technology that enables PC manufacturers to bring the best of the Android ecosystem to their customers. It also leverages the advanced graphics capabilities of AMD APU and GPU platforms,” said Manju Hegde, corporate vice president, Content, Applications and Solutions at AMD (NYSE: AMD).

They also added, “We are excited to work with BlueStacks to make the emerging Android mobile apps market part of the broader computing arena, especially given that the beta-1 version has been localized for 10 different countries.”

Performance wise its a decent software . There is a very small amount of lag in running  applications which is  considerable . The navigation in this software could be confusing first but with frequent uses it is no more an issue. It’s worth a try specially for those who long for owning an android device and even for those who want to enjoy their apps on a big screen.
