Every Android smartphone manufacturer is responsible for upgrading their handsets to the latest Android versions and Samsung is no exception but we’ve also seen the fiasco of LG’s refusal to upgrade their 2011 product line to Ice Cream Sandwich let alone Jelly Bean. Android updates are known to arrive late as it has always been the case with previous versions of the operating system, we can certainly remember the Galaxy SII saga but that’s about to change. This is about to change today, at least for Samsung’s recent smartphones, 11 smartphones including the Galaxy SII will be receiving a Jelly Bean (4.1.1) update in the coming months, the list includes the:
- Galaxy S II
- Galaxy Note
- Galaxy S Advance
- Galaxy S II LTE
- Galaxy Music
- Galaxy Chat
- Galaxy Ace 2
- Galaxy Beam
- Galaxy Ace Plus
- Galaxy Mini II
- Galaxy S DUOS
In addition to that 4 tablets were also promised Android 4.1.1 update:
- Galaxy Tab 2 7.0
- Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
- Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
- Galaxy Note 10.1
The update will primarily focus on major changes including Project Butter that promises a lag-free experience but Samsung will also be adding its own ‘TouchWiz Nature’ touch. It’s quite surprising to see low end devices like the Galaxy Ace Plus being upgraded considering that it packs an oldish Snpdragon S1 and only 512MB of RAM. This leads us to wonder who Samsung will ever be able to cram Jelly Bean into a device that features only about 270MB of usable RAM. Of course that remains to be seen!
